Megan Fox is an actor who rose to popularity partly due to her role in the Transformers movies. These movies have grossed over $1 billion worldwide since the first movie was released in 2007. Fox played the role of Mikaela Banes which became a breakout role that allowed her to catapult into numerous other high-production Hollywood films. She played this same role for two films until the third film rolled around. During the filming of Transformers 3 there was a controversy where she could not continue filming and her character was recast. The accounts of exactly what happened are disputed by numerous parties involved but suffice it to say the incident caused her to exit the series. So the question remains why exactly did Megan Fox leave the Transformers franchise and will she ever return? Fans of the series would love to see her return in any form along with other original cast members.
She Made Negative Comments About Michael Bay
The incident that caused Megan Fox to leave the production of Transformers 3 seems to be disputed by multiple people. Still it seems to allegedly originate from comments that she made toward the director of the film Michael Bay. Michael Bay is the original director of the new series of Transformer movies and he directed five different films during its run. The films were highly successful and made a large amount of box office returns. However in an interview Michael Bay wished he would have stopped earlier. According to Bay, fellow director Steven Spielberg gave him some advice that he should stop the film series at the third movie. While he appreciated the advice he ultimately decided to go forward with the series only to regret it later. For Bay the films were making too much money to stop and he regretted that he couldn’t work on many other projects for the nearly ten years that he was making them.
Megan Fox took aim at Bay during an interview where she compared him to acting like Hitler on his sets. She went further to say that he’s a nightmare to work for but praised his personality off set as being more to her liking. However this faint hint of praise was still a bit negative because she described his off-set personality as hopelessly awkward. A short time later it was announced that Fox would not return to the Transformers series. Some outlets reported that it was a decision by Megan Fox but others asserted that she had been fired.
Steven Spielberg’s Involvement
As seen earlier Bay takes fellow director Steven Spielberg’s thoughts into account. It was reported that Spielberg was a motivating factor behind the decision to fire Fox before the next Transformers movie. Steven Spielberg was a producer on the Transformers series so his word held some sway on the decisions that had to be made in terms of casting. Unfortunately this decision did leave a dark cloud over the franchise as her character had developed an emotional arc over two films that had to be replaced.
Her Character Was Replaced
One reason that Megan Fox might not want to return to the franchise is that her character was replaced in the third movie. Megan Fox’s character had an emotional arc throughout the movies she was in that ended in her confessing her love for the main character in the film’s finale. Because her character was replaced returning to the film series would be difficult without a creative plot to explain what happened to her original character. This would likely mean she would have to return as a different character which while possible would not capture the spirit of the original movies.
Will She Ever Return?
The Transformers films are no longer being directed by Michael Bay and there are many Transformers projects besides the films in which she could play a part. Megan Fox has never said anything about returning to the series but has also never ruled it out. There have been reports that she has been eyed in the past for a return to the series but nothing has come about so far. Megan Fox could definitely return to the series someday as her original character Mikaela Banes or as an entirely new character. As long as the series continues the likelihood of it happening will continue. Still for now the chances of it happening seem unlikely.
