A new rumor suggests Jason Momoa may take on the role of Lobo in the DC Universe because the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is not being received well at test screenings.
According to a new report the recent test screenings have been poorly received for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom James Wan's follow up to the original 2018 film. Film columnist Jeff Sneider backed up this claim revealing DC Studios wants to move in a different direction with Momoa because of how bad the Aquaman sequel is. Therefore it is rumored Momoa will be Lobo in the DCU going forward, but the studio does not want to make the announcement just yet.
After Momoa teased an upcoming dream project in the DCU rumors started circulating that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom would be his final time playing the King of the Seven Seas. There's a lot of cool things that are going to be coming up and one of my dreams come true will be happening under their watch so stay tuned the actor said. This led to many theorizing that he had been cast as the fan-favorite character Lobo.
Aquaman's Questionable Place in the New DCU
However Momoa later seemed to suggest that he does not want to give up the role of Aquaman which he has held since 2016's Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. I'll always be Aquaman. Ain't anyone coming in there and taking shit Momoa said. There might be some other characters too. I can play other things too. I can be funny and savage and charming. This comment started a new rumor that Momoa would portray both Aquaman and Lobo in the future DCU a creative decision that many have suggested could be very confusing.
As of now no rumors have been confirmed as there was no mention of Aquaman or Lobo in James Gunn's recent announcement of the upcoming DC slate. However despite all the discussion around Momoa's status as the character and the quality of the film the actor still seems confident Aquaman 3 will happen. While he has claimed Lost Kingdom has a lighter tone Momoa has suggested the three quel will be a very emotional watch for viewers. He went on to claim that the planned film may even be too dramatic.
